The Poetry of Ruth Page 6
This Earth Soil (My soul)
This living earth
Inside me
Quakes
In tremblin' currents
Crashing against the mortal plain
Giving way
To turbulent terrains
Shaping this crust of dust
In sharped-edged peaks
And valley lows
Steeped in needled pines
And volcanic ash
And smoldering embers
Compounded
By the perishing bleakness
Of stark dark night
Which inhibits the light
Before the noon rises
To howl at the moon
When death comes too soon
And squashes life being
Under the feet
Of the mighty acts of God
Who covers the earth
In His rapturous glory
And fiery fury
At the side of one another
To the resounding sovereign ring
Of He Who appoints
The day
And the night
In spite of the plight
Of this tremblin' soul
Seeking to behold
The Light
Speaking..."Lo! Look and see!
I am doing a new thing! (replacing the existing one - not seen or known before)
Now! (at this present moment)
It springs forth! (leaps - comes forth suddenly)
Do you not perceive it? (sense it - realize it)
And know it? (comprehend it - grasp it)
I will even make a way (the mode - the means - the path - the direction)
In the wilderness (the rough country)
And make rivers in the desert. Isa. 43.19"
Night in the City -
(9/12/2001)
I walked
into
the empty village streets.
It was after
nightfall.
I walked
through
to the call
of narrow empty stone streets,
as
angular structures
reach up
to meet
the pitched black
darkened skyline
encased
in the fog-like mist,
and where
clear skies
formally exist,
where
charm
and artful form
complement
the concrete cement.
I saw now
a stark place
of autoless motion
and stilled
movement,
capped
with
the ghostly odor
of a burning ashenface.
I heard
a shocked
silence
permeating
the air
like
deathly spirits
there
loom.....
......ing
in the hazy
darkness
of a blighted
frightful
chill of night.
I felt
a hushed
sadness
and sorrow
pitched
against
cremated souls
welded
with
concrete and mortared molds
planted
in the crust
as dust
and ashes
are blown
and strown,
where
moans
and groans
call out
the names
of loved lives
lost
in the shadow
of death -
to cast the light
in the darkened night
on the ones
they left
behind
in the mind field -
for God's will
to be done on earth as it is in heaven,
by the battle won
through the revelation -
through the elevation -
through the manifestation
of
THE SON
